Why yoga?

Yoga is a set of practices, ideas, and stories dating back thousands of years, interpreted many times over, and brought to us through dozens of different traditions.

What they all have in common is that they offer answers to fundamental questions about the nature of human experience and the cause of suffering, as well as practical methods for finding peace, sitting with difficulty, and moving toward joy.

Yoga has been called the science of the self. Through a dedicated, individualized yoga practice, you come to understand who you truly are, what you really want, and how to let go of everything that’s keeping your from becoming what you’re meant to be.

My specific focus is therapeutic yoga, which applies the practices, philosophies, and methods of yoga to offer relief from pain, shame, grief, depression, anxiety, and the effects of trauma.

“When all the knots that strangle the heart are loosened . . .”

Yoga is a practice for understanding what binds you to the behaviors, thoughts, emotions, and reactions that are causing you pain. There are literally thousands of possible practices available to loosen those knots. I tailor each person’s practice to their individual needs, goals, personality, and abilities.

Therapeutic yoga, in particular, helps you develop the skills to loosen the knots that bind you to suffering. It’s not a system of blame, but a set of actions that give you the power to live with whatever pain life has handed you—and to find joy and peace no matter what you have experienced.

It would be my joy to share these practices with you.
